rarely these days do I put on a CD which has my ears pricked within the first
minute and has me going back to the beginning with keen interest. Such was my
experience with Nicolas Wickham-Irving's Claudio disc of Chopin's four Ballades
and F minor Fantaisie on CB5259-2, which I urge you to hear.
is a strong flavour of the pianism of the late 18th Century virtuosi
from an artist who believes in the moment rather than repeating what he has done
I am sure that if Wickham-Irving returned to the same studio
with Claudio's first rate producer Colin Attwell and made a new disc of the same
programme it would be equally fascinating yet utterly different.
